About Chewy Cafe

Chewy Café is an energetic and proven multi-media program designed to empower children to make smart choices about their health, thereby resulting in a dramatic reduction of childhood obesity and related illnesses like diabetes.

Our mission is to provide age-appropriate education and interactivity, making it fun and easy for kids ages 11 through 14 to make healthy choices about food, cooking, nutrition and physical wellness.  The Chewy Café core program is based on national and Arkansas state Frameworks for Health, Math, Science, Language Arts and Writing, and is designed to be integrated into the Middle School curriculum.

The Chewy Café program includes:

•    DVD series of 20-minute episodes and 3-5 minute short cooking segments

•    Companion curriculum guides

•    Interactive website (www.chewycafe.com)

•    Energy Factoy

•    The Book of Chew mini cookbooks for kids and parents, edited by Goumet book editor, Diane Abrams

•    Tips and fact sheets on nutrition, cooking, physical wellness

•    In-school / on-site, hands-on cooking events and appearances

•    A variety of multi-media support materials

•    The opportunity to participate in our School Advisory Council and focus groups

The Chewy Café program is subject to ongoing evaluation by in-school student and teacher focus groups and evaluation by the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences College of Public Health.  Studies conducted by the U of A have shown that Chewy Café successfully instills the positive habits, knowledge and initiative required to combat childhood obesity and related illness.
